Alumni Festival 2022 – Matriculation Years 1967, 1982, 1992, 2002

Sidgwick Hall

We are pleased to welcome back alumnae from the years 1967, 1982, 1992 and 2002 to College for their special reunion weekend from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 September 2022.

BOOKINGS CAN BE MADE HERE

Dinner

The key event is the Reunion Dinner held in College Hall on Saturday 24 September at 7.30pm, to which each alumna is welcome to bring a guest. The Principal, Alison Rose, will be hosting pre-dinner drinks in the Principal’s Lodge from 6.30pm. Numbers are restricted by legal limits so – while we will do our best to accommodate all those who wish to attend – early booking is recommended and places will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Successful bookings will be confirmed until the maximum number is reached.

Accommodation

A limited number of rooms are available by scrolling down to ‘accommodation’ when booking tickets. You may book B&B in College on both the Friday and Saturday nights.

Rooms in the Dorothy Garrod Building are ensuite and can be single (£120 per night) or double (£130 per night) occupancy.

Rooms in Champneys Building are single occupancy (£78 per night) only and are not ensuite; you are able to book an additional room for your guest if you would like.
Please contact us if you have accessibility requirements.

Saturday Events

Gardens:

On Saturday, our gardens are open for alumnae to visit and enjoy and you are very welcome to bring a picnic and a group of friends and family with you into the gardens. There is no need to book or register but we’d love to hear if you’re intending to come along. The Iris Café will also be open so you can pick up a drink and a quick bite to eat there.

Tours:

We’re extremely grateful to the new Head Gardener, Paul Anderson, who takes over from Lottie Collis, who many of you will have known. Paul’s fantastic team will be offering tours on both days – book your free place at 11am or 1.30pm (please note that spaces are limited and we request alumnae only book on tours they plan on attending). Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.
We’re delighted that Newnham’s Domestic Bursar, Wendy Evans, will also be offering tours of the new Dorothy Garrod Building at 11am and 1.30pm on Saturday. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.

Our self-guided tour Highlights from the Art Collection at Newnham will also be available all weekend so you can immerse yourself in some of our newest pieces or reacquaint yourself with old favourites at your own convenience. Erika Tan’s plates and banners – specially commissioned for Newnham’s 150th anniversary – will also be on display, and we are discussing with Erika the possibility of her giving a special talk about her works (details to be confirmed). A number of smaller displays and exhibitions will be on offer too (more details to be included in the programme).

Sunday Events

The Newnham Conversation:

This popular series was established in 2008 and has become one of the highlights of the Alumni Festival weekend. This year it will take place on Sunday 23 September (11am-12pm) and is titled Classics Now in Cambridge and Beyond with Dr Shushma Malik and Dr Carol Atack. Drs Malik and Atack will draw on their research and teaching experience to discuss questions of relevance, political practice and cultural authority in the context of the vibrant Classics community at Newnham. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance here.

Tours:

Tours of the gardens will also be available to book for Sunday 25 September (tickets are free but must be booked in advance.), and the self-guided tours will likewise be available.
