Fibian Lukalo joins advisory council on women in agriculture

Dr Fibian Lukalo (NC 2006) has joined the Ban Ki-moon Centre’s advisory council on Women in Agriculture. Fibian is part of a group of 12 experts from academia, international organisations, NGOs and government representatives, which fosters dialogue between women farmers from Africa, young changemakers and institutional players in the fields of gender, agriculture and climate change.

Its ‘Elevating the Voices of Women in Agriculture’ campaign aims to raise awareness of the lived realities of women farmers in Africa, who produce 70% of the continent’s food but face obstacles in accessing land, finances, education, and more, because of gender inequalities and the changing climate.

“In the past 10 years, my work has focused mainly on land governance, women and livelihoods,” explains Fibian.  “Agriculture (rain-fed) still remains the main source of food and feeding families. Therefore ‘Elevating the Voices of Women in Agriculture’ brings to fore this critically important subject.” You can find out more about the initiative here
