Biography

Dr Sebastian Kurten is a researcher with a background in statistics (MSc) and social work (MA), studying the effect of digital media on adolescent wellbeing.

Sebastian is a postdoctoral research associate at the MRC: Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit at the University of Cambridge. He earned his doctorate in Social Sciences from KU Leuven University in 2022 and gained valuable experience as a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan from 2021 to 2022.

In his ongoing research endeavours, Sebastian uses large scale surveys to study the effect of digital media on adolescent wellbeing. In one of his projects, he collaborates with UNICEF to investigate how media effects differ across diverse countries and samples. His latest work examines the role of deprivation in shaping adolescents’ media use and wellbeing. Additionally, Sebastian’s keen interest lies in promoting best practices in statistical coding to enhance the reproducibility of research.
