Newnhamites featured in New Year Honours List

Newnham is delighted to announce that the following Newnhamites were named as receiving awards in the New Year Honours List 2016:

Professor Henrietta L Moore (NC 1979) FRSA was appointed DBE for services to Social Sciences.

Professor Linda M McDowell (NC 1968) and former Vice Principal of Newnham College appointed CBE for services to Geography and Higher Education.

Professor McDowell, who is now a Fellow at St John’s College, Oxford, has led the development of feminist perspectives on contemporary social and economic change and, as an economic geographer, has been particularly interested in the connections between economic restructuring, labour market change and class and gender divisions in the United Kingdom.

Professor McDowell said: “During my career I have collaborated with some inspiring scholars and have taught a generation and more of students: this honour is for all of them as much as it is for me.”

Professor Amanda C Howe (NC 1973) was appointed OBE for services to Primary Care.

Hillary F Willmer (NC 1960) was appointed MBE for Voluntary Services to Disadvantaged Communities in West Yorkshire.
