Excitement mounts ahead of the Boat Race

Women's Boat Race crew 2023

There are only four days to go to the Boat Race. Good luck to the Cambridge crews including Newnham’s own Caoimhe Dempsey (Stroke) in the Blue Boat and Hanna Prince in the reserve boat.

NCBC Co-Captain Becca Sproston sent news from the week’s earlier races – where Cambridge enjoyed early success: “Vicky (Maria Victoria Rodriguez Noci) and Beth (Taylor) raced in the Lightweight/Openweight Spare coxed four last Saturday, decisively beating Oxford!

“Beth is racing again in the Openweight spare pair tomorrow, before Hanna Prince races in Blondie and Caoimhe Dempsey in the Blue Boat on Sunday.”

The full crew for Sunday’s race is here.

Caoimhe, who is studying for a PhD in psychology, said: “We are focused on going as fast as possible… Our goal is to leave no stone unturned in the lead up to the race, use every opportunity to put out our best performance. On the day, the result will take care of itself.

“These girls have been an absolute pleasure to lead, they have a never ending energy and commitment to strive for more. I’m really proud of the journey we’ve been on and it’ll be an honour to line up on race day together.”

The live broadcast on BBC One will begin at 3:30pm GMT with commentators including Clare Balding (NC 1990). You can also stream it live on The Boat Race YouTube channel. The Reserves Races will not be part of the initial broadcast but will be available post-race on The Boat Race’s YouTube channel.
