Newnham College wishes to recruit a NIGHT PORTER to join the Porters’ Lodge team, working dedicated nights on a rotating basis. The Porters’ Lodge is traditionally a focal point for information and assistance for students, Fellows, staff, and all other visitors including conference and B&B guests and provides an efficient and effective front reception, welcoming people to the College and overseeing security and health and safety. The College has two people working the night shift at all times. Some flexibility is required to cover sickness and holidays.

This is a permanent post working an average of 35 hours per week. The shift system currently involves 4 x 10-hour shifts followed by 4 days/nights off. The annual salary (pro rata) is £25,369 and is based on Spine Point 31 on the University’s Single salary spine, the full-time equivalent for which is £27,181 (pay award pending). The post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme with a current employer contribution rate of 14.5%. Other benefits include the equivalent of 33 days holiday inclusive of public holidays, pro rata, which effectively is 23 x 10 hour shifts per annum, free meals when on duty, free car parking when available and free use of the College’s gym facilities.
