Margaret Anstee Research Fellowship

Newnham College is looking for an outstanding early career female researcher to apply for a Research Fellowship in subjects related to economic and social development and/or international relations in the Global South
The Fellow will be based at the Margaret Anstee Centre, the legacy of Dame Margaret Anstee, the first woman Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and a graduate of Newnham. For further details of the Margaret Anstee Centre, please click on the link to the right.
The Centre focuses on trends in international development with the aim of supporting inclusive social and economic change around the world. It also hosts the Archives of the Disappeared, an initiative that addresses the challenges of research, documentation and evidence collection in the study of communities, social movements, life-worlds and cultures that have been destroyed through violence.
Applications are invited from outstanding women candidates whose doctoral degrees are complete and have been awarded.
Margaret Anstee Fellows are supported by the Knowledge Exchange Co-ordinator to catalyse and leverage their research, in order to promote knowledge exchange, impact and change. The Centre therefore has a particular interest in applicants who are actively engaged with ‘translational’ research.
Dr Mezna Qato is the Director of the Centre, and current and recent Fellows include Dr Cynthia Kamwengo, Dr Diala Lteif, Dr Georgia Cole, Dr Jessica Sklair and Dr Daniela Sanchez-Lopez. The Centre also hosts visiting fellowships, most recently Dr Fadia Panosetti (Postdoctoral Affiliate) and Rashalee Mitchell (Visiting Bye-Fellow) and supports 2-3 postgraduate scholarships at any one time. The founding Director was Prof Emma Mawdsley.
The Centre is located in Newnham College, and provides an ideal hub and platform for discussion, research and external engagement. Margaret Anstee Fellows are also encouraged to build connections with at least one Department or Centre within the University of Cambridge.
The Fellowships attract a generous stipend, and an additional award of £10,000 is available to run an event to promote the research, such as a conference, workshop or seminar series.
