Biography

Dr. Yoon Hee Choi completed her BSc in Biomedical Sciences and MSc in Clinical Neuroscience at University College London (UCL). She then moved to Australia to pursue her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Prof. Danny Hatters, where she investigated the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases such as motor neuron disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Since 2022, Dr. Choi has been working as a postdoctoral research scientist in Dr. Della David's lab at the Babraham Institute, studying mechanisms of healthy aging and age-related diseases.

Research Interests

In her current role in the David lab, Dr. Yoon Hee Choi's work focuses on expanding the protein quality control network to uncover mechanisms that promote healthy aging and mitigate age-related diseases. The protein quality control system ensures that the entire proteome is correctly folded and functioning. Recently, the David lab identified several novel protein quality control proteins in the extracellular space of a C. elegans model that modulate the formation of age-related protein aggregates and improve the lifespan of worms. Dr. Choi is currently characterising the human orthologues of these C. elegans candidates to identify novel human extracellular quality control machinery and determine their mechanisms of action.
