Biography
Dr. Wendy Browne first joined Newnham College in 2010 as an MPhil student in Social and Developmental Psychology. The following year, she continued her academic journey at Newnham, pursuing a PhD in Psychology funded by the Economic and Social Science Research Council and Newnham College. Under the supervision of Professor Melissa Hines, her doctoral research focused on the relationship between neonatal testosterone concentrations and behaviours exhibiting sex differences in later life. After completing her PhD, Dr. Browne worked with Professor Claire Hughes at the Centre for Family Research on a longitudinal study exploring the connections between parental wellbeing, parenting behaviours, and children’s self-regulation development. From 2017, Dr. Browne held various research and teaching roles at the Department of Psychology and the Faculty of Education, including working within the Centre for Research on Play in Education, Development, and Learning (PEDAL). In 2019, she joined the Rudd Centre at the Faculty of Education as an Affiliated Lecturer in Developmental Psychopathology and Education Practice. There, she designed, delivered, and coordinated course content for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in both the Faculty of Education and the Department of Psychology. Additionally, she contributed to research and practice-based initiatives at the Rudd Centre, focusing on child and adolescent mental health. Following a brief return to PEDAL as a Research Fellow on a project supporting early mental health interventions for children aged 0-5 years, Dr. Browne transitioned to the Student Support Services at the University, where she now serves as a Student Wellbeing Adviser. Alongside this role, she has taken on Director of Studies responsibilities in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, including at Newnham College.
