Research Interests
Dr My Hang Thi Bui is currently researching intraregional flows of people and capital, transnational city networks, and development in East Asia, between South Korea and Vietnam in particular. She has a particular expertise in marriage migration.
My Hang’s work draws on multi-sited, multi-ethnic, and multilingual ethnography, emphasising how international migration and cross-border partnerships not only contribute to poverty alleviation and democratisation in the so-called Global South but also play a crucial role in sustaining development in the Global North, particularly in the super-aged societies of Northeast Asia. Drawing on Asian and inter-Asian perspectives, her project at Cambridge, The Treasurable South, seeks to rethink and reposition the Global South on the world stage and in institutions of knowledge production.
