Harriet Truscott has the endlessly varied role of Communications Director for Newnham. She joined the College in 2018 after some fifteen years experience at the University of Cambridge, across six different departments.
Harriet Truscott has particular responsibility for the research communications and alumnae communications at Newnham. With her job share partner, Eleni Kanellas, she is jointly responsible for internal communications.
Harriet Truscott works Monday to Wednesday.
Before coming to Newnham, Harriet took a year’s sabbatical to travel and write, including working in Botswana to set up a new centre for vocational education. She has a particular interest in public engagement, widening participation and research communications.
Harriet is also an alumna of the College (NC 1996), having studied English Literature and Russian at Newnham.
Newnham’s Communications Office is about college communications in its broadest sense. Yes, we’re creating engaging alumnae publications, writing a prospectus that attracts great students, running social media, and overseeing the website. However, our role is ultimately to help people within College communicate – with each other and the outside world. That may mean working with students and staff to ensure that routine information and procedures are clear. It may mean working with academics to manage unexpected media attention, or helping you prepare for a major interview about your research.
