Biography

Dr Ricarda Beckmann studied physics at Imperial College London, before obtaining a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Oxford; specialising in understanding the co-evolution between supermassive black holes and their host galaxies. After working as a researcher at the Institute d’Astrophysique de Paris, Ricarda joined Newnham as the Ruth Holt Research Fellow in 2020.

Research Interests

Dr Ricarda Beckmann is an expert in the link between supermassive black holes and their host galaxies across cosmic time. As a numerical astrophysicist, she uses large-scale simulations of the Universe to understand how supermassive black holes evolve and what role they play in the evolution of the universe we see around us today. Her interests cover a wide variety of cosmological environments, from the origin of the first supermassive black holes via black holes in dwarf galaxies to black holes in the most massive galaxy clusters we see today.
