Dr Farheen Sayed is solid-state chemist currently focusing on structure and electrochemistry of energy storage materials 

Farheen obtained her PhD in Chemistry under Dr A K Tyagi from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Mumbai University joined program in 2014. During her PhD she worked on synthesis of different structural inorganic materials in nano and bulk form to explore its properties like ionic conductivity, magnetism, dielectric and luminescence. For a brief period, after her thesis submission and before getting final degree, she worked in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) with Prof Vivek Polshettiwar, Mumbai to develop magnetic nanoparticles for catalysis applications. Subsequently she worked as Junior Visiting Scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre to develop oxygen ion conductor ceramics for use as solid state electrolytes in SOFCs. In 2015 She received prestigious Nehru Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Prof P M Ajayan at Rice University. And since then started her journey into materials for energy storage devices, as batteries and supercapacitors, also for energy generation using electrocatalysis.  

Research Interests

Farheen says “My research aim is to apply very basics of physical and inorganic chemistry for better understanding of structure electrochemistry relations in energy storage material, focusing on Li ion and metal batteries. Being a solid-state chemist, also brings me advantage of the ability to modify crystalline structure by adopting different synthesis protocols. Along with bulk structure-electrochemistry, I am also interested in the microscopic interfaces in Li based battery materials.” 

Currently she is working on developing thin films and interfaces of materials.
