Miriam Margoyles enjoys a fond return to Newnham
We were pleased to have alumna Miriam Margoyles drop in for lunch with the Principal and students while on her book tour. The writer and actress surely embodies our college claim to foster witty and rebellious women and looks back fondly on her time at Newnham. As she told the students: "I love Newnham, I made friends for life, they've lasted to my eighties. I hope you do too."
Miriam writes extensively about her time at Newnham in her books (This Much is True, and her new one Oh Miriam!). She was delighted to hear there were lesbians proudly out at College, and issued a rallying cry to all the students: “Newnham College is a great college, it has a great history and you are part of it... Let's make the world a better place."
She enjoyed her visit and said: “I had a glorious time. Very emotional to return to my beloved college. Just superb.”
As well as appearing at the Corn Exchange as part of her book tour, Miriam was in Cambridge to record a feature for Cam magazine which will be published in November.
