Thank you for your interest in applying for the Margaret Anstee Research Fellowship. The role and particulars can be found on our vacancy page.
Here are some of the Frequently Asked Questions:
Which countries are included in the list of the Global South?
Any country that appears in any column of this list, the DAC list of ODA recipients. In addition applicants are eligible from the UK and Ireland, as well as indigenous scholars from around the world.
I have joint citizenship of one country on the Global South list and another country not on the list, am I eligible?
Yes you are eligible.
I have settled status in the UK, am I eligible?
Yes you are eligible. You will need to demonstrate your right to work in the UK if you are selected for interview.
When does my PhD need to have been awarded?
Your PhD must be awarded before the fellowship application deadline of 28 March 2025. If the PhD has been awarded and your thesis deposited, but your graduation ceremony falls after the 28 March, that is fine.
I completed my PhD five or more years ago, am I eligible?
In general, we would say no more than five years of postdoctoral research experience, but there is flexibility, for example if you have taken time away from research for family or health reasons.
What is meant by translational research in this context?
This relates to research that reaches and has an impact on non-academic audiences. Our Research Fellows are encouraged to work with external audiences to exchange knowledge and to build their networks. This work can take a variety of forms, such as organising workshops, responding to consultations, hosting exhibitions, taking part in media work and building networks and coalitions. The Knowledge Exchange Co-ordinator is available to support this work and to provide training.
Do I need to have established contacts within Cambridge?
No. Only to indicate where/who you might like to be affiliated with. However if you will be reliant on lab space or the use of other resources, then please do make preliminary arrangements before you apply.
