Dr Manali Desai of the Department of Sociology has been promoted to Reader. Dr Desai’s current work includes an examination of gender and sexual violence in India and South Africa, a comparative study of colonial rule and long-term development in India, and a project on class mobility in urban India.
Dr Rachael Padman takes up a promotion to Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics. Dr Padman has for many years been heavily involved in the University’s administration, with a special focus on improving teaching administration. Her research interests include millimetre wave optics and receiver systems, low-mass star formation, and in particular jets and outflows from young stars and spectral-line data reduction software.
Dr Sheila Watts of the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages has been promoted to Senior Lecturer. Dr Watts specializes in the historical linguistics of German and related languages, with a current international collaboration exploring the Early Germanic Noun Phrase.
