Pudding Seminar: Shaaroni Wong (PhD), ‘Nothing and Everything: Turning to the Void as Research Methodology’

The Māori creation story begins with Te Kore: the Void. The Void is not an empty space, but a space from which all is possible. In my research, I have used the concept of the Void as a core research methodology, consistently returning to a space of nothingness to allow new ideas, information, and questions to spring forth. In research with vulnerable populations, the Void is particularly important to protect and privilege participant voices and interests.

Shaaroni is a final year PhD student in Sociology. Her thesis explores the gap between Crown Government and Māori women’s narratives on the effect of equity initiatives in Public Systems such as Criminal Justice, Education, and Healthcare .

All staff, students, and senior members are very warmly invited to attend the Pudding Seminars. Talks usually last between 20-25 minutes, followed by time for questions, comments and discussion before we finish at 1.50pm, to allow people to get to 2pm appointments.
