Dorothy Garrod

The Dorothy Garrod Building is the newest building on the site, completed in 2018, and houses the gym, offices, conference rooms, and the Iris Café, as well as student accommodation. The Porters’ Lodge is located at the main entrance to this building on Sidgwick Avenue.

Dorothy Garrod has 82 undergraduate student bedrooms over the first and second floors. The rooms are divided into household or ‘clusters’ which share the use of large kitchen/communal spaces. All the bedrooms in Dorothy Garrod are ensuite. Some of the rooms in this building are only available on a Termly licence as they are prioritised for use as conference accommodation during the vacations. The information as to which rooms these will be each year is given out prior to the ballot taking place.

The ensuite rooms are incredibly popular and there are not enough for everyone, so students with medical needs that require the use of an ensuite room are given priority for these rooms as part of the ballot process. Information is sent out prior to the ballot giving information on how this can be done. Students who have accommodation requirements due to medical needs can contact the Student Accommodation Officer to discuss their options.

The first floor is divided into four clusters. Cluster 1a has five double, ensuite rooms, Cluster 1b has six double ensuite rooms. Cluster 2 has 8 ensuite rooms, one of which has an accessible bathroom. A further four rooms in this cluster are allocated as postgraduate rooms. The kitchen for this cluster is larger and is fully accessible. Cluster 4 has eight double ensuite rooms. On this floor, rooms in clusters 3 and 4 are available only on a termly licence.

The second floor also has four clusters. Cluster 5 has 11 double, ensuite rooms. Cluster 6 has 12 ensuite rooms, one of which has a single bed and a larger, accessible, bathroom. The kitchen in this cluster is also accessible. Cluster 7 has eight ensuite rooms, one of which has a single bed and a larger, accessible bathroom. Cluster 8 has 12 ensuite rooms, one of which is a single room with larger, accessible bathroom. The kitchen for this cluster is not fully accessible.

On this floor, rooms in clusters 6 and 8 are only available on a termly licence.

There is lift access to the rooms in this building, though there is no direct lift access to clusters 1 and 5. Lift access to these is via the cluster 2 on the first floor, or 5 on the second.
