The Phyllis Deane Fund for Economics

Inspiring future generations of economists

Phyllis DeaneDistinguished Fellow of the Economic History Society, President of the Royal Economics Society and Fellow of the British Academy, Professor, Phyllis Deane was a pioneering scholar and inspirational teacher.

Phyllis was Director of Studies in Economics at Newnham College from 1962 until 1980 during which time her outstanding intellect and academic achievements set an example of dedication to her students and pushed forward the boundaries of her subject.

Newnham is very proud of its connection with such an eminent Economic Historian and is committed to continuing Phyllis’s legacy of encouraging female economists and attracting outstanding academics to teach its students. We have accordingly established a fund to support teaching in Economics in Phyllis’s name.

Please join us by making a donation in honour of this exceptional Economist.
