Newnham Associates

Being an Associate is fun and rewarding and a fantastic way to be involved with Newnham.

Apply to be an Associate
If you like the sound of being a Newnham Associate, why not apply? All alumnae are eligible to make an application – you just need to be enthusiastic about the future of Newnham and able to give some time. We elect new Associates at the AGM every November and you would usually be expected to serve for 5 years with a likely renewal for a second 5 years. To find out more about how to apply read the information on our website.

Honorary Associates
The Honorary Associates are a group of Associates who have come to the end of their term but are keen to keep connected and involved. They are listed in the Associates directory and continue to help students and alumnae with their careers. They are also active in other Associate and wider College initiatives.

Subject Formal Halls (Associates only)

We are delighted to offer free places at Newnham Subject Formal Halls for up to four Associates or Honorary Associates in related fields. This is a lovely opportunity to enjoy dining in College again and to chat to those currently studying in your area. Each formal will begin with a drinks reception at 7pm, before dinner at 7.30pm.

We would like it to be as easy as possible to book your visit, so please read these guidelines.

  • Places are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like to book, please contact the Roll Office on roll@newn.cam.ac.uk with your name and the Subject Formal that you would like to attend.
  • The College has agreed to pay for the Associate dinner places to Subject Formal Halls, so you do not need to make a payment for your place at dinner.
  • Please make bookings for Subject Formal Hall at least seven days in advance: this gives notice for both the Catering team and the table plan organisers, and ensures that we can make your Subject Formal Hall a really successful experience.

On the day of your Subject Formal Hall:

  • Graduate gowns are worn to Subject Formal Hall. If you require a gown, do let us know by contacting the Roll Office on roll@newn.cam.ac.uk and we can leave one for you to collect from the Porters’ Lodge on arrival and leave with the Porters when you depart.
  • Please arrive at the Porters’ Lodge at 7pm.
  • Pre-dinner drinks will be available in the Lucia Windsor room from 7pm.
  • The dinner begins at 7:30pm.
