Generous pension

Three jars full of coins

The College offers a generous pension to staff via the USS (Universities Superanuation Scheme). Although the contribution rate can go up or down, the current employer contribution rate is 14.5% and the employee rate is 6.1%. That means there is a combined rate of 20.6% of your salary going in to your pension via salary sacrifice, giving your pension pot an enormous boost!

33 days holiday (including bank holidays)

Hols

Annual leave at the College runs from 1 January - 31 December. A full-time member of staff gets 33 days a year, inclusive of bank holidays. Holiday is pro rata for part-time staff. As an additional bonus you get an extra day of annual leave from the start of the annual leave year after you complete 5, 10, 15 and 18 years' service up to a maximum of 37 days holiday!

When you work more than 4 hours, as a College employee, you are entitled to a free lunch in the buttery. Choose from 3 cooked lunches or from the salad bar with a range of soft drinks. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Great family friendly benefits

The College offers the full range of family friendly entitlements including Maternity, Adoption, Paternity, and Shared Parental Leave and Pay. 

The supportive occupational provision includes the first 18 weeks of Maternity/Adoption leave at full pay, with a further 21 weeks at SMP and 13 weeks unpaid, whilst Paternity leave is 2 weeks during the first 52 weeks after the baby is born at full pay.

Shared Parental Leave and Pay are also available and access to unpaid Parental leave, Time off for dependents and access to the Flexible Working request policy.

Free Staff Parking

Normally the College can accommodate all the vehicles of staff who wish to drive to the College during the working week. The Porters can advise once you start work.

Free Gym membership

The College has air-conditioned gym facilities and staff are able to use these during certain times of the day, free of charge. All you need to do is to register when you start work, have your gym induction and then you can work out to your heart's content!

 

Cyclescheme

    Newnham College offers a Cyclescheme offered by entering into a salary sacrifice arrangement. This is a cost effective way of paying for a bike and bike equipment, up to maximum value of £3,000, getting fit and contributing to saving the planet!

Your Birthday - off!

From January 2026, you can take your Birthday as an additional paid day off (or the nearest working day to it if it falls on a non- working day for you!
