Getting to and from Newnham

By car

Sidgwick Avenue is just off the A603 and approximately 2 miles from junction 12 on the M11.

Please note that Silver Street is closed to cars for part of the day, and has a ‘tidal flow’ system for the rest.  At most times it will be easier, when approaching the College from the southern part of Cambridge, to use Fen Causeway.

By rail

There are regular train services from London (King’s Cross and Liverpool Street) and from the North and Midlands. The Universal Bus route has a stop at the train station and the closest stop to Newnham is on Grange Road.

By coach

A frequent coach service runs between London (Victoria Coach Station) and Cambridge.

By air

Stansted is the nearest international airport. There are regular coach services from Cambridge to all London airports, and train services from Stansted to Cambridge (see the links above).

Car parking

For parking in College for short-term visitors and for those with disabilities it is helpful to contact the Head Porter in advance.

There is generally adequate short-term parking for loading and unloading of students’ belongings at the start and end of term, but drivers are asked to move their cars as soon as loading or unloading is complete. There is pay-and-display parking on Sidgwick Avenue.

For conference parking, including parking for those with disabilities, please contact the Conference Administrator.

Students may not keep cars in Cambridge without special permission from the Senior Tutor and the University Motor Proctor; a student who has permission to have a car will be told where it can be parked.

All vehicles are left at owner’s risk.

Taxis

There is a free taxi call-line located next to the Porters’ Lodge.
