Newnham’s Art Collection

Art is on display throughout Newnham’s buildings and gardens, reflecting the identity and enhancing the cultural life of the College. The collection comprises fine and decorative works of art, including an outstanding collection of portraits.On display at Newnham are works by Dame Laura Knight, Lucy Madox Brown, Gertrude Hermes, William De Morgan, Dora Gordine, Mary Fedden and many others.The collection is notable for its outstanding portraits, such as the portraits of Pernel Strachey by Henry Lamb, Katharine Stephen by Glynn Philpott, and Jane Harrison by Augustus John. Contemporary artists who have been commissioned by Newnham or whose work features in the collection include Cathy de Monchaux, Sinta Tantra, Juliette Losq, Erika Tan and Gillian Wearing.
